Priya Lakhani is a serial entrepreneur, innovator and educator who sits on the board of the UK Government’s AI Council. Following a successful career in the law she pivoted to the food sector and launched an FMCG business. Priya is currently the founder and CEO of CENTURY, which uses AI and data to create personalised learning tools for schools, and is a sought-after communicator and broadcaster for the global media on innovation, business, AI and education.
In 2008 Priya left her job as a libel barrister and set up the Masala Masala food brand. Its “one-for-one” business model, similar to Tom’s ethical shoe brand, provided vaccinations and school meals in India and Africa. She is the author of two books, including Inadequate: the System Failing Our Teachers and Your Children and is currently writing one on AI. As well as keynote speaking, Priya is equally happy conducting fireside chats and business awards as she is chairing panels and hosting business awards.
After taking the Stanford AI Leadership course, Priya created education startup CENTURY, with a mission to learn how every brain works. The platform provides personalised lessons for individuals while freeing teaching professionals from admin tasks such as marking. CENTURY is expanding into other sectors, including the legal profession, retail and health. Priya is a co-founder of the Institute for Ethical AI and has held several significant advisory roles.
Priya Lakhani has been a board member of the Government departments, including Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Business Enterprise and Industrial Strategy, as well as contributing to the Vallance Review of AI Regulation in 2023. Priya has received many accolades, including Business Entrepreneur of the Year, The Spectator’s National Economic Innovator of the Year. She is also a World Economic Forum Tech Pioneer and a recipient of the MIT SOLVE award. She has an honorary doctorate in Engineering from Coventry University and was made OBE in 2014.
