Leon Lloyd is a former England international rugby player, who has played at the highest level and against elite players such as Jonah Lomu, (and survived!). He won 11 trophies whilst playing with the English and European Champions, Leicester Tigers. Since retiring from playing the sport, he has gained a first-class honours degree in Leadership and Management and has gone on to work with other elite organisations that include the SAS and the Premier League. He is co-founder of Switch the Play Foundation, the first and only UK charity that assists professional sports people transition away from their sport.
His years of playing elite rugby and working with elite organisations, have given him remarkable insights into the entire life cycle of high performing teams. He has a deep understanding of how high performing teams are made, how they, or individual players can be crushed, and then rebuilt, and how they can go on to develop a sustainable winning mindset and culture. He is passionate about the importance of attitude and culture when it comes to achieving high performance. You cannot buy a culture. Together you have to create collective behaviours that have momentum.
Leon Lloyd shares with his client’s innumerable insights, stories, practical tools, tips and techniques and his 5- point steps to building a winning team provides a practical framework for success. He also shares how you can go from the highest of the highs to the lowest of the lows, and then come back stronger.
Leon grew up in Coventry and still maintains a dream to score the winning goal in an FA Cup Final for Coventry City. As the eldest of four children, Leon left school at 16 to pursue a professional sports career and has benefitted from lots of support and guidance along his journey. As result of this, giving back to others less fortunate is high on his personal agenda and has been an Ambassador and Business Mentor for the Princes Trust since 2004 as well as being a Patron for Action Deafness and holding other charity ambassadorial roles.
Sometimes it’s the small changes which can be the deciding factor between what makes a good team and what makes a great team. By fully understanding your role within your team, and appreciating other contributions, you can maximise your strengths and align your personal goals with those of your teams. Using transferable skills that I have gained from elite sport, we will identify your own ‘World Cup’ target and the steps you need to take to achieve it.
All our actions are the result of internal emotions, thoughts, feelings, and external situational concerns. To be an accomplished manager or leader, it is vital you develop a high level of emotional intelligence in order to manage yourself and others effectively. In this session delegates will explore the essence of behaviour, thought, and feeling, and how this varies from person to person.
In this session delegates will explore the meaning of success in their environment, and how that may or may not align with the organisations view of success. Using a ‘Success Pyramid’ and focussing on the plan, actions and review, individuals will be able to effectively plan for success and the journey beyond. The tools developed within this workshop will ensure that success is viewed collectively as a journey and not a destination, and one over which your decisions give you full control.
This session will look at managing change, as well as identifying potential barriers, conflicts, and challenges that often arise when we are faced with change. We’ll assess and determine how to find positives from each potential negative scenario, whilst keeping the momentum going. Life is full of setbacks, but by understanding and planning for them, their impact can be better controlled, helping to create a company culture that thrives.
Show More Show Less
"We asked Leon to hold a session for our whole team about company culture and high performing teams. Every attendee thoroughly enjoyed the session - we were able to see that our values as individuals aligned, which also has prompted further thought and discussion about how we could translate these into our team and company values and be even more successful in the future!"
"Leon provides an energetic, entertaining and insightful talk that engaged the entire audience. Everyone found something they could relate to and it was a fantastic way to finish our members conference, creating a really positive atmosphere. The only problem we now have, is that everyone wants Leon to present in their regions!!"
ACCA Europe & Americas
"I would highly recommend Leon as an event speaker. Leon listened to our needs and we jointly created a brief to achieve this goal. Leon is articulate, funny and has a great ‘sense’ of how the audience is reacting and responding to him. The content was engaging, funny and when needed serious and to the point. Leon came prepared, arrived early which gave us time to set the stage and make last minute changes. Leon engaged well with our delegates before and after his speech which was very well received. The strongest element was Leon’s understanding of our theme and how his story supported that theme to make an impact with the audience."
Leisure Net Solutions
"I had the great pleasure of working with Leon who supported us for an event focussing on resilience, teamwork and effective change management. Leon spoke with passion, knowledge and enthusiasm and made us think about the importance of self-awareness and mentoring as being key tools in order to deal with adversity – something we all experience at some point in our careers. From meeting Leon both formally, and informally, his passion for understanding what makes people tick and how to get the best out of them is very evident, and I look forward to working with him again in the near future."
