Kersti Kaljulaid served as the President of the Republic of Estonia from 2016 to 2021. Throughout her tenure, she made a significant impact in both her homeland and the international arena. Over the years, President Kaljulaid has stood up for the basic principles of our society – democracy, human rights, equal treatment of people and freedom of speech.
One of the principles that guided Kersti Kaljulaid throughout her presidency was the thought she formulated when she took office: “I will never be silent when our security is at stake, our freedoms are at risk, or the weak are being victimized.” In the summer of 2021, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appointed President Kersti Kaljulaid as his global spokesperson for the health and well-being of women, children and adolescents in the world for the next two years.
President Kersti Kaljulaid was also the first Estonian to be selected by the prestigious magazine Forbes as one of the 100 most influential women in the world. Kersti Kaljulaidis has developed into a valued speaker at various high-level forums on digital, security, foreign policy topics, and more generally as a thinker and analyst of societal changes.
