Andy helps organisations reframe change and innovation, through talks, seminars and coaching, using examples form his remarkable high-profile sustainably powered expeditions around the world and, importantly from their failures. He shares unique lessons and ideas that reshape organisational thinking and drive innovative decision-making.
For over 20 years the former BBC reporter and adventurer has explored the globe using innovative modes of transportation that don’t threaten the climate. He has;
• Driven a chocolate-powered lorry to Timbuktu,
• Circled the world in a scrap yard van fuelled by waste cooking oil scavenged from bins along the way,
• Sailed across the globe in an abandoned sailboat he restored.
• Cycled across Central America
• Glided through the Himalayas taking passengers on his paraglider
Along the way he’s learned first-hand how to adapt and make changes successfully to address pressure and adversity. He’s broken down in the Sahara Desert, crushed his vertebrae in an a 50m fall in Nepal, been just feet from the lightning strike that hit his boat in Guatemala, and been locked up with a murderer in an Indian prison cell.
Failures turned out to be the moments that mattered most; the stepping stones to success. Now he frames failure as the companion to success and offers a unique blueprint on how to make space for failure to stimulate creativity, adaptability, and the confidence to let go when things aren’t working.
Andy accolades include multiple investigative journalism awards. He’s a certified Passive House Designer, qualified reef-restoration diver, accredited welder and former Northern Ireland Paragliding Champion.

For years Andy drove gas-guzzlers across the Sahara Desert, until an epiphany created a new set of motivations and challenges. At the start of their change journey you have to managing the conflict between who you are and the need to evolve. Building a foundation for your motivation...
Andy’s experiments in cutting carbon emissions while travelling the world came with a cost of abandoning familiar expertise, embracing uncertain endpoints and conflicting motivations. Sustainability is our era’s stress test for how organisations handle change.
A paragliding accident left Andy with a broken back and his career as a professional paraglider pilot over. The bottom is a great place for rebirth, but failure isn’t just an iterative step towards progress. Allowing the space for failure enables you to enter the space where real...
A 300,000v lightning strike went racing through the mast just a few feet from Andy. The navigation electronics exploded, and within minutes the boat was taking on water through the holes the lightning had made in the hull. When recovering from a shock, the secret to...
