Tobias Schroedel explains technical system gaps in a way that is understandable for everyone. His talks are rare of slides. If he speaks about the darknet, he will enter the darknet – live and together with you. If it is about AI, he will use AI-tools – live on stage. And he also does not neglect the fun – regardless of whether as a live hacker or as a speaker about cybercriminals, AI or Social Networks. Maybe that’s why the computer magazine CHIP once called him “Germany’s first IT comedian”, although his talks are lectures and no comedy show.
Schroedel is a trained IT specialist and developed IT solutions in Germany and Atlanta (GA) for the enterprise business sector af a worldwide operating US company before spending many years developing IT security solutions and working as a consultant at T-Systems. He is a certified trainer for IT specialists and has been conducting examinations for this profession for the Chamber of Commerce in Munich for over two decades.
Since 2011, Schroedel shows up on German television, whenever „stern TV” (a weekly magazine format at RTL TV) deals with IT security, the internet, computers or smartphones. He writes a weekly column and has published five books. Not only are these successful, two of them are awarded.
“Hacking for Managers” was honored with the “getAbstract award” as “Best Business Book of the year 2011” and “It’s a Nerd’s World” received the EMYS youth non-fiction book award in August 2019.
Schroedel is also an expert in historical ciphers. For example, after 450 years he has found a way to decipher short Vigenère-encrypted texts for the first time. His collection of old, encrypted postcards has already been exhibited in museums several times.
Tobias received his first computer as a present from his grandmother at Christmas 1982 at the age of eleven: a Sinclair Spectrum 48k. A short time later, he wrote his first programs in BASIC. This was followed by an Atari ST, a Commodore 64 and, at the age of 18, the first MS DOS PC. After graduating from high school and completing his civilian service, Schroedel began studying economics at the University in Munich, which he quickly dropped out of. Instead of becoming an accountant, he preferred to network the university’s PC lab.
A lecture like a thriller! The biggest threat to companies at the moment is cyber-criminals, who first steal data, then encrypt it and finally demand a “ransom”. If you don’t pay, contracts, emails and other company secrets end up online – for everyone to see. Follow Tobias Schroedel on a...
