Niamh Fahey is a former professional footballer, former Liverpool FC captain and one of the Republic of Ireland’s most experienced international players, with 115 senior caps across a 17-year international career.
Originally from Galway, Ireland, Niamh grew up in a sports-focused family, playing both Gaelic football and football while also committing to her education. She moved into the professional game in 2008 when she joined Arsenal, before going on to play for Chelsea, Bordeaux and Liverpool.
Across her club career, Niamh competed at the highest level in England and France, building a reputation for leadership, resilience and consistency. At Liverpool, she became captain and helped lead the club to the FA Women’s Championship title in the 2021–22 season.
On the international stage, Niamh represented the Republic of Ireland from 2007 to 2025, earning 115 caps and becoming one of the country’s most respected senior players. She reached her 100th cap in 2022 and was part of Ireland’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She retired from international football in January 2025, before retiring from professional football at the end of the 2024–25 season.
