With more than 40 years of law enforcement experience, he is one of the most distinguished figures in global policing.
Born in 1959, Jürgen Stock began his police career in 1978 as a criminal investigator in Hesse, Germany. Over the years he worked as a narcotics officer and undercover investigator. From 1984 to 1995, he studied law on a part-time basis and completed his legal training with the Second State Examination and a doctorate in law. His career then took him to various key positions in the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and as principal of a police academy, before he was appointed Vice President of the BKA in 2004.
In 2007, the General Assembly of Interpol elected him Vice President of the International Police Organisation IKPO-Interpol. In 2014, he was elected Secretary General of Interpol and re-elected in October 2019 for a second five-year term. He was a frequent speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Munich Security Conference and the Aspen Security Forum. During his tenure, he visited some 150 countries. During his ten years at the helm of Interpol, Jürgen Stock transformed the organization into a global hub for intelligence and coordination in the fight against terrorism, organised crime, cybercrime and financial crime. He also strengthened Interpol’s integrity, independence and commitment to the rule of law.
He advocated for a more effective global security architecture and promoted innovation in crime prevention, particularly through the use of transformative technologies such as the metaverse and artificial intelligence.
