Biography

Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell, known affectionately as Dr. Bayo “Bye-Oh,” serves as the Medical Director of Urgent Care Clinics at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV, and is the visionary founder of Beyond Clinical Walls, a dynamic social media and podcast platform dedicated to sharing accurate and credible health information through entertaining, and educational short-form content. Her mission as a social media influencer is to provide accessible health information to diverse audiences to increase health literacy and raise awareness for inequalities in health care. She recently graduated from the One Million Black Women In Business program sponsored by Goldman Sachs and NYU School of Business. She was selected to serve on the national CDC Communications and Public Engagement Workgroup.

Dr. Bayo’s profound commitment to her community is evident through her diverse roles and active involvement in public health initiatives. She serves as an assistant medical examiner at Washoe County Child Protective Services, safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children, and has notably held the position of President at the Washoe County Medical Society. She co-chairs the Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging Committee for the Nevada State Medical Association. In 2023, she was appointed by the Governor to advocate on behalf of patients for Nevada’s Patient Protection Commission, solidifying her dedication to healthcare advocacy. 

Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Bayo assumed the pivotal role of Medical Director for the Washoe County Sexual Assault Response Team, providing essential support to survivors. Her dedication extended further as she contributed her expertise to the Reno Mayor’s Task Force and the Governor’s Medical Advisory Team for Nevada, showcasing her unwavering commitment to public health. 

Dr. Bayo’s dedication and accomplishments have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards. She was honored as one of Sierra Nevada’s Top 20 Most Powerful Women in 2019 and received the PBS Reno Spotlight Extraordinary Neighbor award in 2020. In 2021, she was presented with the Young Physician Award by the Washoe County Medical Society and received the Community Service Award from the same society. Most notably, Nevada Business Magazine recognized Dr. Baed as a Healthcare Here in 2022. Recently, Becker’s Hospital Review highlighted Dr. Bayo as one of the 75 Black healthcare leaders to watch, and in 2024 she was honored as Health Advocate for the Reno-Sparks NAACP.

As a nationally recognized public speaker and event host, Dr. Bayo has served as a keynote speaker at various events, was a panelist at this year’s SXSW and a moderator at HLTH, and has had the privilege of presenting twice at TEDx. In addition, she actively engages in national media interviews and consistently contributes to multiple publications.  

Outside of her professional endeavors, she finds joy in the company of her husband and their two young daughters, embracing life in the picturesque surroundings of Reno-Tahoe.
