Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell, a board-certified family medicine physician and nationally recognized health advocate affectionately known as Dr. Bayo, serves as the Medical Director of Urgent Care Clinics at Saint Mary’s Health Network and the Washoe County Sexual Assault Response Team in Reno, Nevada. She hosts the “Beyond Clinical Walls” podcast and creates credible, short-form health content on social media, with a unified mission to help people understand their bodies and the healthcare system so they can advocate for the care they deserve.
Dr. Bayo’s commitment to healthcare advocacy extends beyond her clinical work. She serves on many other boards, bringing her lens of advocacy and expertise as a physician to each conversation. In 2023, she was appointed by Governor Lombardo to advocate on behalf of patients for Nevada’s Patient Protection Commission. She previously served on the national CDC Communications and Public Engagement Workgroup. She graduated from the One Million Black Women in Business program, sponsored by Goldman Sachs and the NYU School of Business, in 2024.
Her dedication and accomplishments have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards. Dr. Bayo was recognized as a Healthcare Hero by Nevada Business Magazine in 2022. Recently, Becker’s Hospital Review highlighted Dr. Bayo as one of the 75 Black healthcare leaders to watch, and she was recognized as one of Medscape’s 15 Top Doc Social Media Influencers for 2025.
As a nationally recognized public speaker and media personality, Dr. Bayo has delivered keynotes to audiences of all sizes, including 8,000+ attendees, speaking on the main stage at HLTH with Chelsea Clinton, twice at SXSW and at HLTH Europe with Amazon Pharmacy in Amsterdam. She brings her joyful energy and passion for health advocacy to every presentation, connecting with both medical professionals and general audiences through her signature blend of clinical expertise and relatable storytelling. Her popular speaking topics include women’s healthcare advocacy, addressing maternal mortality and racial bias in medicine, health literacy and preventive wellness, as well as menopause and midlife health. She is known for her TED Talk, “Do No Harm,” which has garnered over 2 million views, transforming the discussion about the US maternal mortality crisis. She is regularly featured on NBC and ABC, contributing to Katie Couric Media and SheKnows, and actively engages in national media interviews, appearing in multiple publications.
Outside of her professional endeavors, she finds joy in the company of her husband and their two young daughters, embracing life in the beautiful surroundings of Reno-Tahoe.
