Biography

Dr. Andrew Sentance CBE is a highly respected business economist with a distinguished career spanning over three decades in economic policy, corporate strategy, and financial advisory. Educated at Cambridge and the London School of Economics, he has played a key role in shaping UK economic thinking through senior positions in both the public and private sectors.

He began his career at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), where he rose to Director of Economic Affairs, advising businesses and policymakers. In the early 1990s, he was appointed to the UK Treasury’s Panel of Independent Forecasters—known as the “Seven Wise Men”—helping guide the country’s economic policy after exiting the Exchange Rate Mechanism. Later, as Director of the Centre for Economic Forecasting at London Business School, he became a leading voice on UK and global economic trends.

In 1998, Dr. Andrew Sentance joined British Airways as Chief Economist, where he played a central role in steering the airline’s post-9/11 recovery and developing its environmental strategy. His expertise in economic policy was further recognized in 2006 when he was appointed to the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). Serving through the global financial crisis, he became known for his firm stance on inflation, often advocating for higher interest rates to curb price pressures.

Following his term at the Bank of England, Dr. Andrew Sentance joined PwC as Senior Economic Adviser, working with businesses to navigate economic challenges. In 2019, he became a Senior Adviser at Cambridge Econometrics, focusing on macroeconomic and climate finance consulting. He also contributed to academia, serving as a Professor of Sustainable Business at the University of Warwick and a visiting professor at Royal Holloway, University of London.

In 2023, he retired from full-time corporate roles to focus on independent economic commentary, public speaking, and writing. A frequent media contributor and sought-after expert, Dr. Sentance continues to provide insights on UK and global economic trends, influencing business and policy debates worldwide.
