Biography

Yuvraj Singh is an international cricketer, three-time world cup winner, cancer crusader, author and philanthropist. Singh has been a member of the Indian cricket team in One Day Internationals (ODIs) since October 2000. He is an all-rounder who bats left handed in the middle order and bowls slow left arm orthodox. Singh is the son of former Indian fast bowler and Punjabi actor Yograj Singh.

 

Singh played his first Test match in October 2003 and was the vice-captain of the Indian ODI team between 2007-08.

 

In 2011, Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour on his left lung and underwent chemotherapy treatment, returning to international cricket in 2012.

 

In the same year Singh was awarded the Arjuna Award, India’s second highest sporting award by the Government of India. In 2014, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour.

 

Yuvraj Singh is the founder of the Yuvraj Singh Foundation, the YSF, a public charity foundation initially aimed at supporting and developing sports for underprivileged children in India and across the world.

 

Whilst undergoing cancer treatment Singh set up YouWeCan, sharing his experiences with the virtual world as he posted pictures of his treatment, sending a very clear message to his followers: Fight. Today, YouWeCan focuses on awareness and encouraging and educating people in their struggle with cancer.
