Biography

Long has taken a key role in integrating China into multilateral and global trading arrangements and is an active player in promoting regional economic cooperation.

He dedicated over 10 years to bringing China into the global trading system as Chinese Vice Minister of Trade responsible for trade negotiations, multilateral economic and legal affairs. He was the Chief Chinese negotiator on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and China’s accession to the World Trade Organisation. He led the first Chinese delegation to the OECD in Paris in January 1995 and established the relationship of dialogue partner with the organization and participates in APEC.

He is currently the General Secretary of the BOAO Forum for Asia (BFA) which he hopes will cultivate entrepreneurship among Chinese businessmen and help China further integrate itself with the world economy.

He frequently attends and addresses high level seminars on economic and trade policies, such as the Global Panel in the Netherlands, the Awashima Forum in Japan and the Pacific Economic Forum the British Royal Institute and Harvard University. Earlier in his career, Long studied economics at the London School of Economics and worked for the UN in New York.
