Subroto Bagchi is an entrepreneur, business leader and writer. He is the chairman and co-founder of Mindtree Ltd., a $435 million global IT solutions company. Mindtree is a strategic partner to over 40 Fortune 500 enterprises, and is listed on the National Stock Exchange, and the Bombay Stock Exchange in India.
Bagchi started as the Chief Operating Officer at Mindtree, after its inception in 1999. He was instrumental in articulating Mindtree’s mission, vision and values. He directed the leadership development, marketing, and knowledge management initiatives, which differentiated the company from the very beginning.
In 2007, he was part of the apex team that led Mindtree from an idea to IPO. Post-IPO, Bagchi assumed the role of ‘Gardener’ at Mindtree, focusing full-time on the top 100 leaders at Mindtree, with a goal to expand the firm’s leadership capacity beyond the founding team. In 2010, he was appointed Vice Chairman to the Board, and in 2012 he assumed the office of Chairman.
Mindtree has been named, “Most Promising Company of 2013” by CNBC and recognized as one of the top 4 companies globally in talent development for 2014 in ATD’s BEST award.
Bagchi serves on the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and is a member of the Governing Council of the Software Technology Parks of India.
He is a popular speaker at corporate and industry events, and at educational institutions, all over the world. Bagchi weaves his talks with anecdotes, and eloquently communicates the lessons he has learned from his experiences, as a business leader and entrepreneur.
He has written extensively in leading newspapers and magazines. His Businessworld column ‘Arbor Mentis’ and Times of India column ‘Times of Mind’, were widely read and discussed. Currently, he writes a column titled ‘Zen in Garden’, in Forbes India.
Bagchi is also a famous business writer, and was named India’s No.1 bestselling business author in 2011. His business books; ‘The High Performance Entrepreneur’, ‘Go Kiss the World’, ‘The Professional’, ‘MBA at 16’, ‘The Professional Companion’ and his latest book, ‘The Elephant Catchers’, have been translated into several languages.
