Sarah Weiner – Keynote Speaker

Sarah Wiener is a German-Austrian entrepreneur, TV chef, and politician who was elected to the European Parliament in 2019. She is one of the most famous chefs in Germany who made it right to the top in a traditional male domain.

Sarah Wiener was born in 1962 in Halle/Westphalia and grew up in Vienna. In the 1980s she moved to Berlin where she initially worked in her father’s restaurant. In 1990 she founded her own catering company and with her mobile kitchen she catered for film crews at home and abroad. Nine years later she opened her first restaurant in Berlin and in the following years, further restaurants and bistros followed throughout Germany.

Thanks to the ARD history documentary “Abenteuer 1900 – Leben im Gutshaus” Sarah Wiener has become known to a broad public. Since then she has appeared in numerous TV documentary series, including “Sarah Wiener’s culinary adventures” on Arte. Since 2019 she has been a member of the European Parliament for the Austrian Greens. Sarah Wiener is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI).

With her Sarah Wiener Foundation, which she established in 2007, she is committed to promoting healthy eating habits among children and adolescents in schools and kindergartens. She is particularly proud of the fact that she has taught almost one million children to cook with her foundation over the past 13 years. Since 2011 she has been engaged as the German ambassador for the UN Decade of Biodiversity.

In 2013 Sarah Wiener was awarded the title of Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite by the French ambassador.
