Biography

Previously, Roula Khalaf was Foreign Editor and Assistant Editor, Financial Times (2013-present) was the Middle East Editor (2000-13) where she had responsibility for Middle East coverage across the region and in the FT’s Middle East edition.

Roula Khalaf joined the FT in 1995 as North Africa correspondent and before that she was a staff writer for Forbes magazine in New York. Her specialist areas are Iraq, where she has travelled extensively, the Gulf, North Africa and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In November 2013, Roula (along with Abigail Fielding-Smith) was awarded the Print and Web Feature Story of the Year Award at the Foreign Press Association’s Media Awards, for the series Qatar: From Emirate to Empire. The series was made up of the two long form articles: Qatar: what’s next for the world’s most aggressive deal hunter? and How Qatar seized control of the Syrian revolution.

Roula Khalaf holds a masters degree in International Affairs from Columbia University and appears regularly on national and international TV and radio.
