Biography

Richelle Carey is an Emmy Award-winning American Broadcaster. She is a journalist, host and moderator specializing in international affairs, global politics and issues affecting working families. Carey provides executive media training and coaching for high profile executives and founders. Through her work with Tone Networks, she hosts microlearning coaching sessions for professional women.

Her broadcast career includes anchor roles at CNN and Al Jazeera. She was a launch anchor at Al Jazeera America in New York before moving to Doha, Qatar to lead the network’s coverage of major world events. At HLN in Atlanta – formerly CNN’s Headline News – she hosted ‘What Matters’, a weekly segment focused on topics important to the African-American community.

Carey is a thoughtful interviewer who deploys the right balance of authority and compassion with guests. She has the ability to address a diverse range of subjects moving seamlessly between current affairs, politics, sports and entertainment. She has conducted hundreds of agenda setting interviews with thought leaders, icons and influencers. This includes Misty Copeland, the first African American female Principal Dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, billionaire real estate investor Sam Zell, and her personal hero Janet Jackson.

As a professional moderator, Carey has presided over world class events including the Doha Forum, a gathering of international leaders brought together to address the most pressing global challenges. Her master of ceremonies expertise spans in person and virtual events, such as the 2020 United Nations General Assembly action zone event in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Her experience of being an isolated anchor in a studio talking to reporters and guests thousands of kilometers away in remote studios has given her plenty of practice for the new hybrid way of working.

A Texas original, Carey attended Smith College in Massachusetts before moving closer to home and graduating from Baylor University. After graduation, she began her career as an Associate Producer at KPRC-TV in her hometown Houston before moving on to anchor morning news shows in St. Louis, Las Vegas, and other cities.

Carey lives in Houston with her son.
