Biography

Maryam Nemazee is a television news presenter, correspondent, broadcaster and journalist. For over fifteen years she has worked on multiple continents, across a variety of countries in Europe, the US, the Middle East, and Asia.

She covers global news and international politics with a particular focus on the Middle East. This involves in-depth coverage of conflicts, geopolitics and humanitarian crises. The broad editorial scope of the programme also encompasses future and present-day trends around climate change, health and technology.

She’s been on-air for many of the big breaking news stories of the past decade as they unfolded, including the global financial crisis, the wars in Yemen, Syria, and, now, Ukraine, as well as the Covid pandemic.

Some of her other projects have provided more contextual, critical analysis beyond the parameters of news; long-form programmes and podcasts on the current conflict in Sudan, or the underlying causes of the political and economic crisis in Venezuela, and an assessment of US foreign policy with General David Petraeus following the election of President Donald Trump.

Previously, Maryam was a London-based anchor and correspondent with Bloomberg Television. She was at Bloomberg during the peak of the financial crisis hosting the prime-time morning programme broadcast across all global markets.
She has been the lead anchor for fast-paced, dynamic news coverage of key political and economic events from the field including the elections in France and America, and EU debt crisis meetings in Brussels.

She’s covered global events like the G20 summit of world leaders, and the annual World Economic Forum in Davos where she interviewed policymakers, central bankers and global heads of state.

Maryam is a graduate of the University of Durham, and City University in the UK. Her diverse family background hails from India, Iran, Iraq and Singapore, which infuses her work with a broad and unique perspective.

I first saw Maryam Nemazee at work during the Davos summit of 2012, where she interviewed three senior leaders with very different backgrounds. What struck me was how she brought in all three into one coherent conversation. Having worked with her on the Shell Powering Progress Together programme for the past two years, I find Maryam comes in well-prepared and knows how to stand up to dominant personalities on stage, while remaining friendly and respectful, thus winning the sympathy of the audience.
