Biography

Juan Antonio March is at present, the President of Fundación Onuart, an organization specialising on the value and positive impact of art on international relations. He has been Spanish Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva (2004-2007) to the World Trade Organization (2004-2007) as well to Russia (2007-2011) to Armenia (2009-2011) – to Belarus (2009-2011) to Uzbekistan (2009-2011) and to Turkmenistan (2009-2011).

During his 30 years of involvement in international relations as a career Diplomat, he has covered most of the key posts and dealt with very crucial issues. He was in charge of Mediterranean relations in the European Union as a member of the cabinet of EU Commissioner Claude Cheysson, he has been at the OECD as a delegate of the European Commission at the Development Assistance Committee, He has been the Director General for Latin America Cooperation at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Madrid and Vice President of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency. He served in the Spanish Embassies in London, Rome and Mexico and during his post as Spanish Ambassador to the UN he was nominated President of the Disarmament Conference (2006), President of the Council of the International Organization for Migrations and President of the Finance Committee of the WTO.

His experience in the private sector has also been important as a Member of the International Advisory Board of the Multinational Company Abertis (2015 – 2019), Partner of Counsel at ECIJA (since 2012,) Senior Advisor for International Affairs at Fira Barcelona (since 2013) and Advisor at Mediapro Exhibitions (since 2015).

He has written important books on international relations and future perspectives. The two most recent ones are “Power & Future: 20 World Leaders and Tomorrow” (Ed de Vanguardia ) and “Momentum, on the Edge of the New World” in addition to many articles in the media. He has given many media interviews and he lectures regularly at different Universities like Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona and the University of Humanities and Social Sciences at Saint Petersburgh.

He has promoted numerous initiatives on the political analysis of future trends, like the “Centre for International Studies in Barcelona” (1989), the “Global Circle in Saint Petersburgh” (2018) “and “The Global Debates on the Role of Artificial Intelligence at the UN- Geneva” (2021 & 2023).
