Prior to his time at the EBA, José Manuel Campa was Global Head of Regulatory Affairs at Banco Santander between 2014 and 2019. Previously, he served as Professor of Finance and Economics at IESE Business School. His distinguished academic career also includes teaching positions at the Stern School of Business at New York University and Columbia University.
Between 2009 and 2011, he served as Secretary of State for Economic Affairs in the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance, playing a key role in managing the economic crisis. During this period, he was a member of the Financial Stability Board, the board of the European Financial Stability Facility, the Economic and Financial Committee, and an alternate governor in multilateral financial institutions. He has been a consultant to various international organizations, such as the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, and the European Commission. In addition to his experience at the EBA, he has also worked as an expert for the Spanish judicial system, in the Spanish Court of Arbitration, and for international arbitration tribunals.
