Biography

Author, artist and performer John-Paul Flintoff is much in demand in the corporate sector as a speaker in the areas of communication, creativity and leadership. His work is consistently hailed as energising, funny and thought-provoking.

A linguist and theatrical improviser, Flintoff founded a think tank, Be Yourself In Any Language, to combine those disciplines, along with neuroscience and psychology, to help individuals and groups improve their communication and collaboration – even in languages they barely know.

As a magazine journalist on The Sunday Times of London and The Financial Times he interviewed and sometimes worked alongside some of the world’s leading performers and fine artists. His own paintings and drawings have been exhibited at the Royal College of Art and Leighton House in London. For his book Sew Your Own he learned to make all his own clothes. He has hand-made hundreds of books, including pop-up books. He recently designed his first set of chinaware. A tutor in creative writing at Arvon, he is currently collaborating on a musical based on his novel What If The Queen Should Die?, which was partly written in collaboration with theatrical performers.

Flintoff’s international bestselling book, How To Change The World, draws from philosophy, psychology and world history to show that leadership is something that’s available to anybody, at any time: throughout history, societies have been transformed by individuals realising that if they don’t like something, they can change it. Flintoff is proud to be one of the co-founders of the international Fashion Revolution Day. He is currently making a documentary film about social exclusion, The Rejection Game.

Flintoff has worked with major organisations in consulting, technology, finance, retail, media, food and drink, health and education. As well as working with groups, he has worked one-to-one with many individual entrepreneurs, artists and change-makers.
