Etienne Thobois is a former elite Badminton player, multiple French champion, and an Olympian in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
A graduate of ESCP Europe Business School in Paris, Etienne started his professional career as a strategic and financial consultant with Arthur Andersen for 5 years.
He then held a number of management positions within major sporting event organisations, such as Chief Financial Officer for the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Paris and CEO for the record setting 2007 IRB Rugby World Cup in France.
He then created and managed a boutique counsulting practice in the sports business that quickly became a reference nationally and internationally supporting major events and bidding committees. Successful bids of Tokyo 2020, UEFA Euro 2016 or the FIFA 2019 Woman’s world cup are amongst his references. In terms of organization, he was involved in various capacities in the FIS Ski world championships 2009 in Val d’Isère, the 2010 BWF badminton world championships in Paris, the FEI Equestrian world championships in Caen 2014, the 2017 football CAN in Gabon to name a few.
Considered as one of the most respected professional in the industry, Etienne Thobois was chosen to be the CEO of what will become the victorious Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid. With his team, he designed from scratch the Paris 2024 project, from the concept of operations to the legacy and engagement plans.
He then was naturally appointed CEO of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee and was instrumental in delivering what is considered as one of the most impactful and best organized Games ever, with fantastic images, daring innovations and record numbers in many areas. Etienne is a living testimony that high ambition, great leadership and state of the heart project management are the key success factors to create “magic”, like witnessed by all in the Paris games.
