Biography

Éric Woerth is a French politician repeatedly called to carry out minister responsibilities under Jacques Chirac’s and Nicolas Sarkozy’s Presidency. As State Secretary responsible for the State Reform in Jean-Pierre Raffarin’s government from March 2004 to May 2005, French Minister of the Budget, Public Accounts, the Civil Service and State Reform, and later French Minister of Employment, Social Welfare and the Civil Service in François Fillon’s governments between May 2007 and November 2010, he notably led the General Public Policy Review (RGPP), the pension reform of 2010 and helped to strengthen the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion.

Member of Parliament since 2002, Woerth is currently a member of the Committee of Finance, General Economic and Budgetary Control. He is also a member of the Assessment and Monitoring Mission (MEC) and the Special Committee for the Public Finance Programming Bill. In the framework of his functions in the Committee of Finance, he is the Special budget reporter for Tourism and regularly charged to work on tax issues such as the tax optimisation, and the fight against tax fraud. He also joined different friendship groups, with the likes of Germany, Canada, Japan and India, the latter of which he is Vice-President.

Woerth has also been the Mayor of Chantilly since 1995 and the head of the local council, the ‘Communauté de Communes de l’Aire Cantilienne’.

On a professional level, after being Head of an internal audit mission at Pechiney and Partner and at Bossard Consultants, he joined the Audit firm Arthur Andersen as an Associate Director from June 1997 to June 2002.

Woerth who is keen on mountaineering, also wrote two books: The Duke of Aumale : the surprising destiny of a collector prince (l’Archipel, 2006) and In the storm : interviews with Renaud Revel (Plon, 2011).
