Biography

Former Springbok rugby captain, Corné Krige, is the owner of an outdoor advertising company and author of his autobiography, Right Place at the Wrong Time.

Born in Zambia, where his parents still live, Corné was schooled in South Africa at Paarl Boys High. He currently lives in Cape Town with his wife and three children.

Corné was a hard-working and motivated openside flank who finally made his Test debut in 1999 after having fought his way back from career-threatening knee and hand injuries.

He played flanker for Western Province in the Currie Cup, the Stormers in Super Rugby and captained the South African national side, the Springboks. A natural leader, he captained the Springboks on his debut in the 101-0 victory over Italy in Durban, but two matches later suffered another serious knee injury against the All Blacks in Dunedin which ended his World Cup hopes. Corné Captained South Africa 18 times including the World Cup in 2003.

The injuries stayed away however in 2002 when he was undoubtedly South Africa’s star player in the Vodacom Super 12 while captaining the Investec Stormers.

Corné has an enviable ability to engage an audience, to entertain them and deliver worthwhile messages. Question and answer sessions are a speciality, as he is quick off the mark, thinks on his feet and is not scared of injury – just as he played the game of rugby!
