Aromar Revi, a thought leader on urbanisation and a global expert on sustainable development, will deliver the Going Global opening plenary keynote speech on Monday 22 May 2017.

Revi directs the Indian Institute for Human Settlements, co-authored the urban section of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports and leads the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) group on sustainable cities.
Revi led a successful global campaign for an urban Sustainable Development Goal – SDG11: Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable – as part of the United Nation’s post-2015 development agenda. Revi has curated the United Nations SDSN’s recently launched global Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) exploring sustainable cities.

A member of the Managing Board of Cities Alliance, the global partnership for sustainable cities and urban poverty reduction, as well as a Fellow of the India China Institute at the New School University, New York, Revi is one of South Asia’s leading experts on global environmental change & climate adaptation and mitigation. He is a coordinating lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Report 5 on Urban Areas; co-principal investigator of a 5 year international multi-million-dollar Climate Adaptation research programme that spans India and Africa; and one of the leading climate scientists helping structure the IPCC AR6 1.5 C report that will define the evidence to support the Paris Climate accord.

In 2014 Revi twice addressed the United Nations at the General Assembly’s Open Working Group in New York and at TEDx Palais des Nations in Geneva on sustainable cities. He delivered the first Kapuscinski Development lecture in South Africa on a similar theme.
