Alex Bescoby is an award-winning filmmaker, author, speaker and broadcaster. His films have been broadcast worldwide Channel 4, History, BBC, Discovery and Canal+ International.
Since studying politics and history at Cambridge University, his work has taken him to some of the less-travelled corners of the world, including the back-country of Sierra Leone, the insurgent-ridden southern Philippines and for almost a decade he made Myanmar (Burma) his home. His filmmaking and writing projects combine his passion for history and adventure, and have led him to living with a lost royal family, tracking down stolen gems, and trekking through the jungles of South East Asia in search of WW2 veterans written out of history.
He recently returned from ‘The Last Overland’ expedition where he and his team drove 21,000km from Singapore to London in a very badly behaved old Land Rover, recreating the famous ‘Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition’ of 1955. A four-part TV series was released on Channel 4 in October 2022, and his book of the same name was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford’s Travel Writer Award in 2023 and the Royal Automobile Club Book of the Year.
